The Lamp Knows

O’ midnight hour, and you,

O’ lamp, beside her bed,

Was witness to whispered vows,

She that she’d stay by me,

I, that I’d always love her,

O’ lamp, you remember.

But now her vows drift away on the river,

Foaming, churning, as pure as frothy froth,

And you, o’ lamp, glowing,

You watch her lying

In someone else’s embrace.

  1. Simply beautiful….this piece, for me holds a strong ground to the sacred night in which..lovers are amongst lovers or thoughts remain with the Beloved…the lamp being the moon…midnight being the veil of secrets in which it hears each whisper…thank you for this!:)
    With much love
